Jesus was the ultimate example of love. We can follow His example when we seek to serve the people around us.
During His life on earth, Jesus Christ taught the importance of loving others. He called it one of the greatest commandments.
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” —Matthew 22:37–39
Jesus taught that the love of God and of our neighbor is the foundation of His gospel. Near the end of His ministry, He expanded on this teaching when He taught:
“A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you. … By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34–35).
When we have love for one another, it’s easier to be like Jesus—we’re more patient, forgiving, and compassionate with the people around us.
It is our hope that everyone in the Draper Utah Stake will take this invitation from the Savior to heart and become more like Him in loving one another.
